We’re about one month into this wild new adventure, and it’s been a bit like a dream. We spent so long working towards our launch that the fact that our website is now live for the world to see doesn’t feel entirely real to me, yet. However, as we grow closer and closer to November 1st, the anticipation over our first submission period opening makes it feel more real every day.
The excitement is indescribable, but I’m going to try anyway. We are five people with full time jobs, families, friends, and hobbies, but Misfit Magpie seems to be near the forefront of our minds constantly. We’re talking about it to anyone who will listen, dropping off posters at local businesses, updating the website, building our social media presence, submitting to newsletters, and just generally trying to get the word out in any way we can. We daydream on Discord over the sort of art, puzzles, poems, and essays you might send us. There are nerves, too, obviously, but no matter how many times we wonder if this is going to work, if we’re going to get any submissions at all, the trepidation is almost immediately replaced with giddy squeals over how close November 1st is and all the bonkers things we’re going to get to read, see, and experience.
While every step of this has been a learning process, and I’m sure we have things to learn that we don’t even know we don’t know yet, the fact that it’s real is finally starting to sink in (for me at least). And we can not wait until next month to see all the unbelievable things you all have made.
